Lentil soup
(Masoor Dal Soup)
A delicious and flavorful soup made with veggies and masoor dal
Ingredients
MASOOR DAL SOUP
Ingredients
1 cup Masoor (For thickening)
½ tbsp oil + Butter
1 medium onion, chopped
¾ cup chopped pumpkin (for yellow color to soup)
1 medium carrot, chopped
1 medium tomato, chopped
½ tbsp finely chopped garlic
4-5 coriander roots and stems, washed
Salt to taste
1½ tbsps butter
Burnt garlic for garnish
Chives for garnish
Method
1. Add Masoor Whole in a bowl and add sufficient water. Soak for 20-25 minutes.
2. Heat oil + butter in a non-stick pressure cooker, add onion, pumpkin, carrot, tomato, and garlic. Mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.
3. Break coriander roots and add to the cooker (for flavor). Add soaked dal and mix well.
4. Add salt, and mix well. Add 3 cups water and mix well. Place the lid on and cook till 4-5 whistles are released.
5. Allow the pressure to settle completely. Blend the mixture using an electric hand blender till smooth.
6. Add butter and mix well. Strain the soup into another pan, adjust seasoning and transfer to a serving bowl.
7. Garnish with burnt garlic and chives. Serve hot.
Procedure
- Wash the Masoor dal and soak it for 20 minutes(dal for thickening of soup)
- Chop onions, Tomatoes, carrot, pumpkin or bottle guard (add all yellow vegetable for color)
- Seperate the root and stem of green coriander (Good for flavor)
- Heat Oil + butter
- Add onions,
- Tomatoes, carrot, pumpkin / or bottle guard .
- And garlic
- Add soaked dal
- Add salt for flavor
- Cook in pressure cook for 4-5 whistles
- Blend the whole soup
- Taste the salt add butter for taste
- Serve hot
Tips
- Serve hot Garnish it with burnt garlic (in butter)
- Decorate it with chives.
- Other dal like moong, Aarhar dal can be used.
